Micah the Pirate…again

If you look back to our April 17, 2009 post you will see the original Micah the pirate post. A little over a year later we have another reason to post Micah the pirate…again. We went to see Micah’s eye doctor on Wednesday for a post-op visit. He was very pleased with how Micah looked and said he will not need surgery again anytime in the near future (there is a possibility he may need it again when he is older). He said the little bit of redness that is left in Micah’s eyes are normal and they should be completely back to normal again in about a week. He did notice that Micah’s right eye is still turning a little bit when he is focusing on objects close to him so Micah has to wear a patch for 1 hour a day for the next six weeks. Thankfully, Micah does not seem to be bothered by the patch and doesn’t try to take it off. We go back for another visit with Dr. Cheng the end of August.

Arrrr

We also made another trip out to Children’s last week to visit with the Gastroenteroloist, Dr. Rudolph. He switched Micah’s reflux medicine from Zantac to Prevacid and wants to see him again in October. So far the Prevacid seems to be doing the trick and Micah doesn’t seem to be having as many reflux issues as he was with the Zantac.

Sitting big in my Bumbo chair

We also had Micah’s yearly Early Intervention evaluation last week. His therapists are VERY happy with his progress and a lot of his goals have moved from stationary goals to goals that will encourage Micah’s mobility. We are also adding speech therapy that will focus mainly on Micah’s eating now that his reflux seems to be under control (knock on wood).

Happy boy

Micah is scheduled to see a neurologist at Children’s on August 4h. Kevin and I are getting worried about the “episodes” Micah is still having and they seem to be getting worse instead of better. We’ve already had an EEG to rule out seizures and an MRI to rule out brain injury (other than the PVL) but something is still going on. Some doctors think its an immature nervous system but we thought the episodes would be going away by now. We’ll see what they have to say…

Mr. Fix-it

Eli is also keeping us busy this summer. We’re getting better at the whole potty thing and hopefully by the end of the summer we’ll be officially able to say we’ve been successful. It’s been a year since we started potty training him but in his defense we’ve all had a crazy year.

Eli and Nana waiting for the movie

Nana and I got to take Eli to the movies to see Toy Story 3 and we even went to Eli’s favorite restaurant Taco Bell for lunch. What a great day! We have plans to go to the spray park, the zoo, Kennywood again and the Children’s Museam before we go back to work the end of August.
